Devon County Council were on a mission to unite businesses, services, educators, community groups and other stakeholders to make Devon the best place to grow.
The challenge
Devon County Council (DCC) needed a visual identity, name and strapline that harnesses the voices of children and young people in Devon, and ensures parents and carers, councillors and other key stakeholders feel seen, heard and valued.
The project needed to put young people’s wishes and aspirations for Devon at its heart, encouraging others to care about the opportunities available to the next generation.
The approach
From creating and facilitating workshops with DCC leadership and members of the youth parliament, to implementing activity sheets for school children and an online survey for hundreds of parents and carers, the research and engagement phases we planned and implemented were rich and diverse in their strategy and execution.
Using the insight we gathered and analysed, we produced three visual concepts and multiple name and strapline ideas for stakeholders to feedback on, including those initially consulted. All approaches were designed to work in harmony with the DCC branding, utilise the DCC colour palette and ensure accessibility across the board.
The outcome
We landed on a simple yet effective logo, an impactful and well-liked name and strapline and a combined photographic and illustrative creative route that projects diversity and inclusion and that brings to life Devon’s natural environment.
We empowered and mobilised the community and leaders from across DCC to feel invested and included in this project, instilling a sense of pride and accomplishment for all involved.
Deliverables included a comprehensive set of brand guidelines and a manifesto, which summarises the initiative’s key aims and objectives. The brand is currently being implemented by the DCC comms team who are deeply committed to ensuring this work makes a positive difference.
