SNACKABLE SNIPPETS: Get more done … in your own way

What’s your productivity personality? Everyone works differently. Figuring out what method is best for you is key to being productive in a healthy and satisfying way.

In ‘How to be curious: ideas to make you think differently’, author Meena Alexander talks about how ‘productivity’ has gone from a buzzword to a dirty word and back again…

When it comes to our careers, lots of us can struggle to be productive when the pressure is on to meet ‘high-performance’ standards. So we need to get curious and understand how best to rev ourselves up and stay focused in a way that works for us and doesn’t lead to burnout. Meena creatively presents three different ‘producer types’ and their corresponding productivity method that can help you get more done. There’s a specific way of working for each of these creatures that works with their strengths and characteristics rather than against them.

So which one are you? A beaver, an octopus or a magpie?

What productivity type are you?

Beaver

Grafter, puts in the hours, struggles to concentrate, easily distracted.

Deep work method – Helps beaver types like you who seek creative flow.

Best for – Concentration, creativity, flow.

Octopus

Multitasker, lots of ideas, dips into different projects, bit of a flitter.

Time-blocking – Schedule your day into bite-size chunks to get stuff done.

Best for – Efficiency, prioritisation, intention.

Magpie

Motivated by rewards, eyes are on the prize, needs regular pick-me-ups.

Pomodoro Technique – Provides timed breaks and regular rewards.

Best for – Short blasts, zoning, focus.
