Creativity and melodic hardcore punk – what’s not to love?
He’s our friendly freelance designer who has become part of the furniture at Alive. Meet Jamie…
What did you do before joining Alive?
I worked as a designer for a small agency, which unfortunately was a casualty of the pandemic. Having the flexibility to start working as a freelancer was a blessing in disguise – I love working with Alive, they’re truly great people.
When did you first decide you wanted to be a designer?
My dad was a graphic designer, back in the day (CS10, Letraset and French curves – Google them!), and I have always been around the design and print trade. My career journey didn’t always go the way I wanted – more technical, management and stress rather than creativity. So fulfilling my dream now feels fantastic.
What do you most enjoy about your job?
I really enjoy the variety of projects and clients – no two days are the same. Working on great campaigns for a wide range of top companies is wonderful. The sense of camaraderie within Alive is rare these days, and it makes a massive difference. Even at my age, I’m learning every day which keeps me keen and focused.
Where are we most likely to find you outside of work?
Walking in the countryside is a great way to relax and we’re lucky enough to be surrounded by it. There’s something therapeutic about watching a dog owner picking up poo! As a keen sportsman, you can sometimes find me in a pub playing pool.
Finally, something we’d never guess about you?
I have a passion for music – melodic hardcore punk. Might seem like a paradox, but the combination of talented songwriting, musicianship and raw energy works very well. A perfect day out is checking into a hotel, pub crawl, decent steak and ending it with a gig.
