Whatever your organisation’s social media #relationshipgoals may be – whether it’s reaching more people, increasing your follower numbers or achieving more likes – as with any relationship, you’ve got to work at it.
With that in mind, here are 8 top tips for igniting that spark and going on to achieve a happy ever after on your social channels.
It should never be about you
Talk about yourself and what you’re doing, but make sure that’s just a small part of your overall content mix. As a rough guide, try and aim for a 75/25 split.
Be a good listener
Make your audience feel listened to and valued. If they have a problem, or suggestion, acknowledge it and make use of the feedback.
Have a sense of humour
The power of #bants should never be underestimated in any relationship! Injecting some fun and humour into your interactions could work wonders for your engagement levels.
Have shared interests
If there’s a mismatch between you, your target audience and the content you are sharing, then you’re going to have a problem.
Keep the conversation going
Make sure anything you post is always relevant and interesting for your target audience. It may be tempting to grab just any old thing to post, especially if you’re short on time.
Keep the spark alive
Variety is the spice of life, so never be afraid to mix it up. Everyone likes to be surprised from time to time. Think about using video, graphics, photos and gifs.
Be present and in the moment
Scheduling tools such as Hootsuite and Buffer are great and can be super helpful, but if you want real, genuine engagement, then you need to be interacting with people.
Be real
If you like it then you better put a ring on it – a ring of truth that is (see what we did there?). Whether it’s team photos, snippets about what you’re doing or ‘meet the team’ style blogs, show who your organisation is and what it’s about.
At Alive we love helping organisations bring their social media to life, through creative graphics, stimulating stories and vibrant videos. If engagement is on your mind, it’s time we talked.
And of course, we’d love you to get involved with our social channels too.
