Meet Cam, our super organised officer/project manager affectionately called ‘the Lieutenant’, who sits crossed legged keeping everyone in check.
She is never happier than when she is researching or liaising with clients to ensure projects get over the line on time. And when Cam’s not busy multi-tasking, she can often be found in another world … gaming!
Key responsibilities
I wear lots of different hats at Alive, including doing quite a bit of project management. When a project comes in I’ll get the costs together, chat with the designers and prepare the estimates. Then, when that’s signed off, I’ll liaise with the client throughout the process and until the job is complete.
I also look after tasks we need doing for Alive. For example, if we want to do an internal project, or need some new software, I’ll get an idea about what is needed and what the deal breakers are, then compile some options. I love doing research! Think I have a brain that just gets Google!
What did you do before Alive?
I came out of uni with a business management degree and my first job was at a large international company. I was working as an assistant administrator, but after a few years, I was tired of the whole corporate system and being a small cog in a huge machine. I had loads of ideas and was really enthusiastic, but no-one cared, or even listened. I wanted to work somewhere where what I said was valued and my thoughts on improving things might actually be used and make a difference.
How long have you worked at Alive?
I’d always been interested in marketing and branding, so I started looking for smaller local creative companies to apply to. That’s when I came across Alive and it was perfect timing. I came along for an interview it all just clicked. That was 3 years ago now. It’s a very happy place, with a great culture and I enjoy coming to work – not sure many people can say that!
What do you most enjoy about your job?
I get to do such a wide variety of tasks and I really enjoy the diversity. There is a general tone to what I do day-in-day-out, but I enjoy getting a curveball from time to time! And I know I’m a bit strange, but I really like working out estimates and quotes for jobs. It feels like a big puzzle that needs solving and my brain is very logical, so that’s right up my street. It’s also one of the reasons I love spreadsheets!
Favourite projects you’ve worked on?
I really like working with clients, especially the smaller companies, as you get to know them really well. I often get as invested in their company as they are and genuinely care how they’re doing and want them to succeed. In the corporate world, it’s all so formal, but at Alive it is the people element that really matters. You’re a person, not just a name on an email.
Where are we most likely to find you outside of work?
I am a big gamer! If I’m not working I’ll be playing a video game or a board game or watching Netflix. I’ve even recruited some of the Alive team into gaming now! We have so many board games at home that we’ve had to relocate them, as we ran out of space in the spare room. My current favourites are Potion Explosion and Pandemic legacy. I also enjoy roleplay games and will meet up with six friends to go on our tabletop adventures. Someone will cook and we’ll load up on snacks and sweets, and just have fun.
Fancy joining the gaming world? Here are some games that Cam suggested during lockdown – Cam’s pandemic games.
Finally, something we’d never guess about you?
People often get surprised that I was born in Sweden. I’m of Persian heritage and can speak Persian and English fluently, with some basic Swedish and German thrown in too. My Swedish friends laugh when they hear my accent though, as it’s a bit wobbly.
I’m also a bit of a cat lady! I had four cats until recently and really want lots more. My dream is to rescue a whole litter!
